Pedal Back The Years events are:
• Designed to help those who want to get more active, more often, or those who have not cycled for a long time to regain confidence on a bicycle.
• Short, fairly flat guided cycle events on beautiful cycle routes across the
county.
• Leisurely in pace with rest stops and a refreshment break.

PICTURE CREDITS: Lindley Owen, Dave Cuffwright
The Routes:

•  All rides are at a leisurely pace, with regular rest stops.

•  Route descriptions let you know which are flat, easy to cycle and of short distance, and which are more testing: with some gradients, road sections or of greater length.

•  Specially tailored events can be arranged for specific groups, where a suitable route can be found. These rides are arranged in response to requests where an event would be well attended by people keen to join the scheme.

Equipment :

•  On joining PBTY, you are entitled to free hire for your first Introductory Ride.

•  The Ride Leader will help you get the cycle that suits your size and needs.

•  If you have your own bike, taking part is absolutely free: please ensure it is in safe working order and, if possible, bring along a spare inner tube to fit your tyres.

•  If you need to hire a cycle on future rides, these are available at £4.00.

•  There are a variety of bikes available including: standard bikes, tandems; adult trikes; and bikes tailored for special needs.

What to bring :

•  Don't worry, no lycra is necessary! Comfortable trousers and sensible shoes are ideal.

•  You may get a little dirty if it has been wet, so older clothes are best. If it is cold, you will get warmer when cycling, so wear layers: a hat & gloves are always a good idea.

•  Bring waterproofs and something warm and dry to put on after, especially if the weather is inclement.

•  Bringing a snack or small lunch makes the rest stop more enjoyable.

Health Check and the benefits of activity :

  • We all have varying degrees of physical limitations. Whilst every care and guidance will be given, it is up to the individual to know his or her own body limits. If you have any health concerns, you should contact your GP.

  • Taking exercise a few times a week can make you feel good, give you more energy, strengthen your heart and help to keep your weight down.

  • The Pedal Back The Years scheme provides rides suitable for all levels of confidence and fitness. Come along and give it a go— you'll be amazed at what you can achieve with encouragement from our Support Riders and other people taking part in the scheme.

What to Expect:

  • You will probably feel apprehensive if you have not cycled for a while, but remember these events are designed just for you.
  • Before the ride we encourage people to give cycling a try around the cycle hire centre or meeting point.
  • Anyone can attend a Pedal Back The Years event, but enrolment onto the scheme will entitle you to free hire of equipment for your introductory ride.
  • All rides are every two weeks, most departing at 12.00 noon , each lasting approximately two hours.
